Not everything worth writing about is a network upgrade. Earlier this year we sent a round of refurbished laptops to Haven of Hope International, a Fort Myers nonprofit working in global orphan care. A few weeks ago those laptops came back to us as a video from Uganda, and it made our whole week.
Who Haven of Hope International is
Haven of Hope International is based right here in Fort Myers, Florida, and their mission reaches a long way past Lee County. They focus on global orphan care, and their tagline says it plainly: raising the bar on global orphan care. The organization was founded by Alice Sweet, and the work happens through partnerships with leaders on the ground in the communities they serve.
It is the kind of organization that does a great deal with whatever it has. That is exactly why the ask made sense to us.
Giving retired business laptops a second life
Junopi donated a round of refurbished laptops to Haven of Hope for their work overseas.
Here is the part worth understanding if you run a business. Equipment that has reached the end of its life on your books is very often not at the end of its useful life. A laptop that is no longer the right fit for a busy office can still be a completely capable machine for someone who has never had one. The hardware did not get worse. The requirements changed.
The catch is that you cannot simply hand off an old company laptop. It has to be wiped properly, verified, and rebuilt before it leaves your control, because whatever was on it is still on it. Done correctly, retiring hardware turns into a donation instead of a pallet in a storage room or an e-waste bin.
A thank you from Uganda
The laptops supported Haven of Hope’s work on a recent mission trip to Uganda. Afterward, Alice sent us videos from the trip, including a “Thank you Junopi” video recorded by the people who received the machines.
Watching it was a genuinely different experience than reading a receipt. Children and adults from the community, a long way from Fort Myers, thanking us directly for equipment that had been sitting unused in Southwest Florida. Alice described the partnership as empowering young people to pursue their dreams, and the video is the proof of it.
